In organic systems, nitrogen (N) is particularly challenging to manage and expensive to supplement. Nutrient plans can be developed with the Organic Fertilizer Calculator, but actual N status during the season is determined by many currently unpredictable factors. N-monitoring is especially valuable to organic farmers. In this project we are working with area organic farmers to monitor N status on demanding crops and diagnose other possible deficiencies as they are encountered.
